چکیده

Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is a technology that transports voice data packets across packet-switched networks using the Internet Protocol (IP). Losing packets in the network is inevitable, and losing voice packets degrades audio quality. The main goal of quality of service (QoS) is to reduce or eliminate delay and loss of voice packets that travels across a network. Researchers proposed many techniques for improving quality of service (QoS) in the face of packet loss . One of these techniques is sender-based loss-recovery techniques (SBLR), whereby the sender assumes an active role to help the receiver recover lost data to improve QoS when packet loss occurs. In this thesis we developed new threshold/Ppersistent sender-based loss recovery techniques for VoIP network. Three loss threshold categories for improving sender– based loss recovery were proposed which are: Random, Adaptive and Fixed threshold metrics respectively. These categories control the volume of the replicated data based on threshold value. A simulation study was carried out using NS2 simulator to evaluate the techniques performance and its impact on QOS for calls delivered through the network. The proposed categories were tested with both conventional sender-based and the P-Persistence techniques through six performance measures of SBLR techniques namely: MOS, Throughput, Delay, Jitter, Cost of technique, and Power Ratio. The new threshold/P-Persistence redundant based techniques achieved better performance than conventional redundant for low to medium loss rate value (up to 5% loss rate), and with appropriate setting improvement can also be realized up to 7.5% loss rate. Also the new threshold/P-Persistence duplicate based techniques achieved also a better performance than conventional duplicate for medium to high loss rate value (up to 10% loss rate) . In general, the new techniques also achieved better voice quality when compared to the plain technique and a higher throughput than conventional duplicate and redundant techniques.

A Packet Loss Concealment Technique for VoIP using Steganography

Speech quality of VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) may potentially be degraded by transmission errors such as packet loss and delay that are basically inevitable in best-effort communications. This study newly proposes an error concealment technique for such degradation by taking account of both sender-based and receiver-based procedure. In the proposed technique, sender-based side informati...

Comprehensive Structure of Novel Voice Priority Queue Scheduling System Model for VoIP Over WLANs

Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) has grown quickly in the world of telecommunication. Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs) are the most performance assuring technology for wireless networks, and WLANs have facilitated high-rate voice services at low cost and good flexibility. In a voice conversation, each client works as a sender or a receiver depending on the direction of traffic flow over ...

A new method for VoIP Quality of Service control using combined adaptive sender rate and priority marking

Quality of Service (QoS) control is an important issue in Voice over IP (VoIP) applications because of the need to meet technical and commercial requirements. The main objective of this paper is to propose a new QoS control scheme that combines the strengths of adaptive rate and speech priority marking QoS control techniques to provide a superior QoS control performance, in terms of perceived s...

VoIP Implementation and Experiments on a Mobile Wireless AdHoc Network

We have implemented a testbed to study the performance of VoIP in wireless ad hoc networks. The ASNC (Adaptive Source Network-rate Control) scheme is used to battle packet loss by feeding MOS (Mean Opinion Score) and loss information back to the sender. Our different VoIP experiments with measurements on delay, packet loss rate and MOS have validated the feasibility and efficiency of our scheme...

Developing Fuzzy Models for Estimating the Quality of VoIP

This paper presents a novel method for modeling the one-way quality prediction of VoIP, non-intrusively. Intrusive measures of voice quality suffer from common deficiency that is the need of reference signal for evaluating the quality of voice. Owing to this lack, a great deal of effort has been recently devoted for modeling voice quality prediction non-intrusively according to quality degradat...
